LIFEGUARD/WATERFRONT CREW LEADER (Staff)
Salary $300 weekly + room and board
The Lifeguard/Waterfront Crew Leader is responsible for helping to plan, direct, and supervise the camp’s waterfront activities. They will supervise and give daily leadership to the waterfront staff. The Waterfront Crew Leader is also responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and testing of the waterfront and its equipment and interpreting, monitoring, and enforcing the safety regulations of the swimming and boating areas and programs. They will also maintain a safe, clean, and attractive waterfront and surrounding areas, including the waterfront bathhouse.
Minimum Qualifications
· Must be at least 18 years old.
· Has training and experience in waterfront activities and management and/or gives evidence of strong ability in these areas.
· Has current Lifeguard Certification and or Water Safety Instructor Certification (W.S.I.).
· Has current CPR and First Aid Certification.
· Has the ability to schedule and supervise staff.
· Has the desire and ability to work with children.
· Has the ability to accept guidance and supervision.
· Is mature as a person in his/her Christian faith.
· Has the ability to relate to his/her peer group.
Responsible To
· The Camp Director and Site Manager
· The Staff Advisor when living in Clayton Hall and when involved in other than waterfront-related responsibilities.
· Reports to the Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
General Responsibilities
· To accept the camp’s Mission Statement and work toward its basic objectives.
· To help plan, direct, and supervise the camp’s waterfront activities.
· To give daily leadership to the waterfront staff in performing the tasks to which it is assigned.
· To help maintain safe, clean, and attractive waterfront areas.
Specific Responsibilities
· Set up waterfront areas during staff training.
· Teach staff members their responsibilities during staff orientation.
· Teach and monitor proper use of all equipment.
· Check equipment and see that necessary repairs are made.
· Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
· Perform all water monitoring and testing as required by the Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
· Maintain the cleanliness and neatness of the waterfront, the waterfront bathhouse, the picnic area, and the Green Cathedral.
· Interpret, monitor, and enforce the safety regulations of the swimming and boating areas and programs.
· Assign and position all lifeguard staff for swimming and boating activities.
· Conduct orientation for all volunteers and for campers at the beginning of each camping week.
· Supervise swimming tests for all campers and keep adequate records of their progress.
· Provide and supervise boating and canoeing instruction and safety for all those participating in these activities. This may be assigned to another lifeguard with certification, training, or experience in this area.
· Evaluate the swimming ability of staff and monitor their recreational use.
· Work with the Camp Director, Site Manager or whomever is placed in charge in training all staff in emergency water search procedures.
· Plan and work with others to provide special waterfront-centered programs and events for the campers.
· Give daily encouragement and suggestions for improvement to each member of your staff
· Give special attention to the concentration of each waterfront staff member and observe his/her relationship with the campers.
LIFEGUARD/WATERFRONT CREW MEMBER (Volunteer/Staff)
Salary $225 weekly + room and board
A Lifeguard/Waterfront Crew Member is responsible for helping to plan, direct, and supervise the camp’s waterfront activities. The Waterfront Crew Member will also assist with the upkeep, maintenance, and testing of the waterfront and its equipment and assist with interpreting, monitoring, and enforcing the safety regulations of the swimming and boating areas and programs. They will also maintain a safe, clean, and attractive waterfront and surrounding areas, including the waterfront bathhouse.

· Assist in providing recognition of camper achievement.
· Plan and work with others for special events such as water carnivals.
· Be willing to undertake other assignments that may be needed.
